Before and After

I bought this antique wicker chair from the 1920s off Craigslist. It has springs. They certainly don't make wicker chairs with springs anymore. The cushion had springs too, but I replaced the entire cushion with nufoam. It had been painted at least once and the cushion recovered 2 or 3 times over the years. I stripped it down and started at the beginning. Here are some before, during and after photos.

If you don't mind telling, how did you paint the wicker? How did you ensure that the paint would "stick?"
Thanks for any info.

What a lovely transformation there girlfriend! I personally like both of the colors, the original and your new, clean, crisp black. And like others commented the cushions are terrific.

One thing I would caution you about though, is that this wicker chair is an antique (well, technically a collectible), made in the late 1920s-1930s. Since it's an antique and they don't MAKE antiques anymore, and this one was created out of paper fibre wicker, (not the more weather resistant rattan reed), it shouldn't be used outdoors at all. Protect those antiques and collectibles, because we can't replace them in our lifetime if they are destroyed.

The elements of sun and rain are very bad for this type of wicker, in fact, any type of wicker except for the new plastic and resin All-Weather Wicker.

I see too, that your chair has several broken spokes and weavers on the arms, so it already has some areas that you don't want to get worse.

I painted with with spray primer and then a couple coats of indoor/outdoor high gloss spray paint to insure even coverage. :)

It turned out great! I refurbished a couple of wicker chairs some time ago. Love your choice of color and the fabric.
